Guildford Castle, Guildford, Surrey
After the Battle of Hastings in 1066 William led his army to Canterbury and then sacked towns along the Pilgrims' Way, including Guildford. Later William, or one of his barons, built Guildford Castle. There is no record of it in the Domesday Book so construction probably started after 1086. Starting in 2003 there was a year-long conservation project. The keep was partially renovated, and the first floor was floored and roofed. During this project which ended in 2004 original features such as crenellations were found to still exist. The keep now contains a visitor centre, open between April and September that includes written panels describing the history of the castle. The roof of the tower is reachable by a staircase which allows views of the grounds and parts of Guildford. This image was photographed with a circa 1974 Olympus OM1 MD 35mm SLR film camera. Kodak Colorplus ISO 200 film was used and it was developed by myself. I re-photographed the negative digitally on a full frame SLR camera using a macro lens.

Textile print on stretcher frame – a fabric print using modern technology

During the thermal sublimation process, the colours are completely evaporated into the material. The resolution of up to 720 dpi and the enlarged CMYK colour spectrum allows accurate colour reproduction with clear contours. Your image is mounted on the solid wood stretcher frame in its true form using only, high quality stretcher frames made of solid wood. The spruce wood comes from German suppliers and is sourced from sustainable forests. To give the stretcher frames permanent protection from losing shape, we triple reinforce the corners under the textile print using metal braces. When mounting on the stretcher frame we avoid using wedges – the frame is so stable that you won't need to loosen or tighten it at a later stage and it will arrive ready to hang.
